FIGURES RELEASED THIS WEEK BY THE NATIONAL STATISTICS INSTITUTE
SHOW THAT THE PRICE OF A NEW PROPERTY IN ALICANTE PROVINCE ROSE 16 PER
CENT MORE THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE DURING 2004.
The figures also showed that the Valencia Region registered
one of the biggest increases, 18.3 per cent, putting it in second place
behind Castilla-La Mancha, which saw a rise of 23.5 per cent.
A Ministry of Housing spokesman said that the current figures
showed the 13th consecutive rise in property prices since 2002, leaving
the cost per square metre of property at a national average of 1.658 euros.
The statistics institute also highlighted the fact that
the number of mortgages issued in January rose by 12 per cent over the
corresponding period for 2004 to 146,815 and that the average loan was
124,000 euros.
BRITS LEAD ALICANTE EXPATS LEAGUE
Another set of figures released this week shows that the
number of foreigners living in Alicante Province and registered with town
halls stands at 319,208.
Of these 78,102 are British, 28,963 are German, 11,408 Dutch
and 8,471 Belgian. Some of the other EU countries that make up the total
figure are Norway, Denmark, France and Finland. The largest non-European
group is from Ecuador with 26,354.
