River Cottage near Poitiers is an idyllic rural haven, this old almshouse is full of character located in a peaceful setting admidst the rolling hills of the Vienne. La Bordeliere was originally used as an almshouse for pilgrims on the route to Santiago (St James) de Compostella in N.W. Spain. The sloping nature of the limestone escarpment gives the cottage a very special character and many different venues for sunning, snoozing and alfresco dining!, an ideal holiday home.
The accommodation. On the ground floor is a lounge , bedroom and bathroom. To the front of the property you have a paved patio under a wooden veranda, with two sun loungers and other outdoor furniture. This area is west facing and gets the sun in the afternoon and evenings. Across the lane is the hard standing area where you can park your car. This is also the entrance to our field where outdoor recreation can be enjoyed, and meals taken under the fruit trees on our purpose built patio if so desired. There is a summer pool and garden furniture.
