Scandinavian designed and developed in the 1990s, this is one of the finest condos in the Eastern Algarve. Set in lush, mature gardens, it boasts two full-size pools (and two kids pools), comprehensively equipped gym (personal trainer also available), tennis, boules, bar/restaurant, kids play areas, communal barbecue, ample parking, etc. It is a very quiet location, very popular for family holidays and long winter stays. Its proximity to Tavira town, and the ready availability and low cost of taxis (~€4-€5 or ~GB£3-GB£4 in July 06), means that many people dispense with car rental altogether. The town centre is an approx 15 min walk (its downhill so many people walk down and taxi back). This is a large (1100sqft/100sqm) 2-bed 1-bath apartment which will comfortably accommodate four to six people (Pullout couch suitable for one adult or two small children or Camp-bed or Travel-cot can be used at an extra charge). Except July + Aug, a discount of 20% is allowed for a couple using only one bedroom. Fully air-conditioned/ heated, it has separate lounge and dining room. There is a large breakfast balcony off the lounge and master bedroom. There is also a large private roof terrace with loungers, table, chairs, small BBQ, etc. Bedlinen (6 to 8 days) and towels (3 to 4 days) are supplied and changed; bathrooms are cleaned each 3 to 4 days, full cleaning each 6 to 8 days.
Satellite TV includes BBC, ITV, etc; the local channels are also available. DVD player included.A good description of the surrounding area is available on http://www.visitalgarve.pt/vEN (click on "Discovering the Region", then "Municipalities", then "Tavira").
Four golf courses are within 15 mins drive of Tavira Garden - Maragota, Benamor, Quinta da Cima, Quinta da Ria; one hours drive will take you to almost any of the many well known courses of the Algarve - and also to Isla da Canela, Islantilla and Bellavista over the border in Spain.
The eastern Algarve is justly famous for its miles of silver strands. Isla da Tavira (Tavira Island) has some of the best beaches in the region; the 5 min ferry crossing to the beaches and restaurants of the island is one of the most popular outings for young and old alike (for the more adventurous, there is even a remote, secluded nudist beach on the western tip of the island!).
A fishing port, Taviras restaurants are renowned for their fresh fish but also for South American beef. Unlike many towns of the Algarve, Tavira is not totally dependent on tourism and has retained its distinctive Portuguese flavour. It is a very quiet, safe location with a marked absence of disco bars or lager louts - an ideal family resort.
Among the many Roman, Moorish and early Portuguese attractions in Tavira and its surrounds, the old Roamn bridge - till in everyday use - is one of the most interesting.
