My family and I welcome you to "To Petrino"; a stone-built villa in South Crete, Greece. We created "To Petrino" with respect to the natural environment and the architecture of the island. Built in an idyllic landscape, among olive groves and the sea very close to it, its experienced architects, artisans and decorators selected and married traditional building materials and embellishments, with the stone being the protagonist! We are waiting for you to visit us, to enjoy moments of relaxation and tranquility in nature. You are welcome to spent your holidays in this private villa at beautiful Crete.Except from swimming there are so many things to do during your stay at the villa. Crete is big enough to offer you a vast array of activities to do and small enough to be at a short distance from the villa! Fishing: You can enjoy many hours of fishing in Cretan Seas. The beaches of South Crete are ideal for fishing by the beach. There you can make new friends and learn more about Crete and its people because you will not be alone! Many people practice this hobby and they will be willing to reveal you some of their tips! Wakeboard, Jet Ski, Kite Surf and Windsurfing have conquered the seas of Crete. They are a true delight in hot summer afternoons and sunny mornings, and at the same time sports that combine rhythm, colour, competition, the elements of nature, a summer mood and passion, and makes the adrenaline flow. Cretan beaches are ideal for such sports. South Crete has many long beaches which are not crowded with swimmers. Moreover, many beaches of South Crete are windy, a vital element for you to enjoy your hobby. For those, that you cannot bring your equipment to the island, the nearest beach to rent the necessary equipment is at Agia Galini. Sailing is a sport irrevocably connected with the Greek people throughout the countrys long history and centuries of nautical tradition. Today, it is one of the most popular sports and thousands of Greeks practise it systematically (in competitions or as a simple sport) using all types of sailing boats. You can find information about renting a boat in the major cities and towns of the island. Diving Tourism: The particularly clean Greek seas and the huge wealth of the deep are a pole of attraction for those wishing to enjoy the magic of underwater exploration. Diving using only a mask is allowed everywhere, but scuba diving using compressed air tanks is forbidden in areas with underwater antiquities. There are clubs, in South Crete where they provide you with the necessary equipment for scuba diving. Expect though, that you will be accompanied by a trained guide during your time in the water. Climbing, hiking and mountain walking: The Cretan mountains are reknowned for their diversity, landscapes of singular beauty and unique forests, many of which rank among the oldest natural wooded lands in Europe. Due to the astoundingly rich flora and fauna they support, the Greek state designated as National Park the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) at Samaria Gorge, Hania and are protected as such, while as a result of infrastructure developed over the last decades, they constitute today ideal destinations for winter and alpine tourism like climbing, hiking and mountain walking. There are, also, the Imvros Gorge and Kourtaliotiko Gorge to explore. Crete has many mountaineering clubs to contact for more information about your interests. Yoga Sessions: Very close to the villa, only 500m away is a club for Yoga! For all of you who want to relax and have some yoga sessions you can arrange an appointment. Tours at Agia Galini: you can find travel agents that arrange organised tours to all the beaches of South Crete. It is very convenient for those who are foreigners to arrange some tours with these agents. They will provide you with all the necessary information about your interests. Ancient sites and museums: Crete as Greece is full of ancient ruins and sites. It is famous for the Minoan civilization which flourished between approximately 2700 and 1450 BC. The most famous of all the ancient sites in Crete is that of Knossos Palace. Each major city of Crete though has an archeological museum that you can visit. Of course, there are folkloric museums, as well, where you can learn about the different versions Cretan way of life, in different parts of the island. Do not miss to visit Phaistos, less than 30 km away, where the famous clay disk, a well-known mystery of ancient Greece, was discovered in 1908 by the Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier. It was discovered in one of the rooms of the basement of the Minoan palace of Phaistos. Scientists, still, have not managed to decipher the Disk. At Phaistos, you can see the remnants of a temple, palace foundations and a city wall. It was the last enclave of the descendants of the Minoans (Eretocretans). At the nearby village Akoumia, there is a medieval Byzantine church dating from 1380 BCAD. The history of the village identifies itself with that of the church.
