SEGNI (800 mt a.s.l) was founded 2.500 years ago by the first Roman Kings, as military and strategic outpost along the way for Naples. Of that period, the town conserves all the spectacular walls (6 Km) surroundings the town, many gates and the panoramic Acropoli (High place of the ancient town), with the remains of an italic temple, in Middle Age transformed in the Christian Church of S.Peter and a stunning view over the Sacco Valley (at foothill) and the Appenines Mountains.
All the historical center has a medieval looking, full of typical houses, churches and streets. There are many cheap and good restaurants and you can buy a lot of typical local products: wooden cooked bread, sweets, chestnuts, local meet, ham and sausages, hand made pasta…..
Due to the altitude, summer is fresh, particularly at night (and without mosquitos).
The last week of October there is The Chestnut Fair, with a lot of exhibitions, music and possibilities to consume typical local foods.
Segni is well linked to Rome, by bus, train (the railway station is at Colleferro, 5 km far away, with a bus service from the town) and Motor Road (Rome-Naples, with exit at Colleferro).
It is possible to go to Naples (and Pompei's ruins) by train, from Colleferro railways station, too.
The nearest airport is Rome Ciampino Airport, 40 Km far away, served by low cost companies as Ryan Air, Air Berlin, Hapag LLoyd.
All around, there are little historical towns, full of monuments, nice people, good and genuine italian food at very cheap prices. Only the most famous: Anagni, Alatri, Ferentino, Paliano.
But also the less famous ones are very interesting: Carpineto, Gorga, Rocca Massimo, Artena.
Air is good, due to the surrounding mountains (Lepino Mountains (1400 mt. a.s.l.) and the woods, in wich you may walk, hike or ride horses.
This is a vacation house, so we may exchange/rent it all the year round, winter months too, because now we have a modern new gas heating system.
Our preferred destinations are, in order : Europe, other continents, touristic places in Italy. If your proposals don't meet our plans/destinations, you may also rent the house at very cheap fares: ask for it.
