Monte Sant' Angelo is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics from all over Italy. However, it is very unlikely you will meet another English person here. The town is unspoiled and things have not changed here too much over the centuries.
The accommodation is self-catering, therefore you will need to purchase your vegetables at the greengrocers or the Saturday market, bread is bought at the bakers and meat at the butchers. When you eat out, each restaurant is unique with its own flavours and charm - no chains here! Because they don't get lots of foreign visitors in Monte Sant' Angelo you will be treated by locals with the courtesy of a valued guest. If you love Italian food, you will not find better!
During August and the Summer months there is folk dancing, parades, children's entertainment and an outdoor cinema in the town square, but this is a place that can be visited all year round. Every night after dinner the town centre is thronging with residents out on their passeggiata. Sit at the bar under the trees, relax and watch life in Italy, unchanged for decades.
The climate is good. It is a 20 minute drive from Monte Sant' Angelo to the nearest beach, during the summer it can be a relief returning to the cooler air of the mountain after a day on the beach or a walk in the Foresta Umbra.
