This historic little house is set in the beautifully peaceful, friendly town of Ortahisar, 3 - 5km from the well known Cappadocian towns of Goreme, Avanos and Urgup. Wake up to the sound of bird song and donkeys and forget the hectic life you normally lead!
The house has been lovingly restored and displays the traditional architecture of this area the white, cut stone with arched ceilings, reflecting the design of the countless stone churches which were dug out of the rock during the Byzantine Era. It has a rich but humble rustic comfort about it and is authentically Turkish in its decore. The upstairs level is the main part of the house with a double bedroom on one side of the entrance salon and the living room on the other which can sleep another person if necessary. From the entrance area there is also a step ladder leading up to an attic and roof top terrace.
On the lower floor there are original cave rooms which were carved out of the characteristically soft rock, centuries ago. One of these rooms is a large and charming second bedroom
It is a perfect base for sight-seeing. The surrounding wealth of ancient and natural beauty is breathtaking. And yet, if one chose to stay at home and sit in the garden or on the rooftop terrace one would be equally enchanted. The atmosphere of Cappadocia is captivating and soothing.
Ortahisar is a relatively non-touristic town, whilst being only a few kilometres from the main tourist centres and facilities. The house is a five minute walk to the town centre up an old cobbled way where you will be welcomed by the locals. People who like to spend time amidst the real Turkey will be comfortable here
The sights to see and things to do are endless, ranging from hot-air ballooning at dawn, to full-moon walks through the unique, convoluted stone valleys, to soothing one's body in the hot thermal waters of Bayram Hajilar. It's a great place to walk. There are walks to places like Ibrahim's lovely tea garden through the orchards of Rose Valley, underground cities, the traditional Turkish Baths (Hamams) to mention only a few.
Cappadocia consists of a cluster of villages and towns, all fairly close together, with Keyseri as its mother city and Nevsehir as a major centre about 25km from Ortahisar. Each town is fascinating in its own right. For example Avanos is famous for its ceramics, Goreme is well known and loved for its conical trogladite dwellings, Uchisar has its large ancient Castle Rock which towers over the whole of the vast, breathtaking land, providing views that one tends to faint over. Each town has its own market day once a week. Cars, bicycles and motor scooters can be hired from Goreme for touring around. There is also an extensive small bus service between the towns and reliable taxi drivers can be recommended on request.
