Our charming house “Il Tufolino” build in the 17th cent. is part of the medieval wall is in the heard of the romantic Tuscan village of Roccatederighi. The house sits on a lovely small square which invites to sit in the sun and watch the walking-by Italians, greeting You with a “come stai?”. The two storey house has recently been renovated tastefully to high standards w/floor- and wall heating, thus comfortable even in winter. Upon entering from the square the hall brings You to the open kitchen, the spacious light living/dining room with fire place and French window to the balcony. From there you have a breathtaking view towards the Mediterranean sea and the Maremma plain. Our house has three bedrooms all with double beds and exposed wood beam ceilings and two bathrooms. There is another possibility of access through a little courtyard to the second floor. The house can be rented throughout the year because it has a modern central gas heating, not to forget the open fireplace for cosy quiet autumn evenings.
Roccatederighi is a charming small medieval village nestling on top of a hill. From here you have fantastic panoramic views towards the Maremma plain and the sea.The village is very authentic and intact with its narrow lanes, archways and little open places inviting to relax. In the historic centre the alleys are to narrow for cars to drive; this guarantees You absolute tranquility.There are 4 restaurants, all of them speciallize in fine Tuscan food, 2 bars where you can enjoy a nice cappuccino and the enoteca offers a broad variety of fine wines produced locally as well as nationwide. In Roccatederighi you can get all you need: a small supermarket, butchers, bakeries, small food shops., a pharmacy, a post office, a bank. A bike shop rents out bikes and organises guided tours.The village is lively but on the same hand a peacefull and idillic spot inviting to rest or as a starting point for excursions to the beaches/islands and explorations of the high Italian/Etruscan cultures.
As to give you only some ideas: Rome, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano and Siena are day excursions. Exploring the island Elba would make a nice day trip too.
The Natural Maremma Park alongside the sea is a protected area wich offers panoramic walks through unique landscapes and wildife. There are hot thermal springs at Bagno di Petriolo and Saturnia. Close by is the lago d´Acesa a refreshing scenic lake surrounded by olive trees, ideal for swimming. San Antimo and the Abbadia S. Salvatore are monasteries, jewels of romanic architecture. Il giardino dei Tarochi designed by the artist Nikki de Saint Phalle near Capalbio. From Porto S. Stéfano boats are leaving to the Islands Gíglio and Giannutri, both great places for snorkeling; boats can also be rented there. Castiglione della Pescaia is a lovely small fishing harbour with various beaches around. In the area of Marina di Grosseto you can find miles of sandy beaches with a backdrop of pine woods.
