The city of Ribera is located in the province of Agrigento, at 223 meters between the Verdura and Magazzolo valleys; it stands in the so-called Plain at San Nicola, a farmer fiefdom that in the first half of the 1600s belonged to the Prince of Paterno` Luigi Guglielmo Moncada. Agriculture is the town’s main industry, notably involved in the cultivation and marketing of the Washington Navel orange, very famous and well known as best fruit in the world. Ribera and Seccagrande have 25000 habitants and much to offer both historically and artistically. Among its major attractions are the birth home of statesman Francesco Crispi, the 1700s Mother Church and the 1800s Palazzo Municipale. The city surrounding are much interesting. Only few kilometres away are the ruins of the 1300s Castle of Poggio Diana, consisting of a battlemented Circular tower and a square one. Originally built by Guglielmo Peralta, The castle successively belonged to the Counts of Luna. Ribera also benefits of a large garden park with many different kind of flowers and secular oak trees well knows as one of the best garden villa in the province of Agrigento. Ribera is famous also for the traditional and busiest market which takes place every Thursday. The village of Seccagrande is mainly populated from local people of Ribera during summer time and lots of activities take place like shows, films under the stars, fire works, games on the beach at night and many others. All these attractions are enormously contributed to developing the tourism in the area and represent the busiest part of the year (end of may to end of august) due also to the lungomare footpath which are allocated the best ice cream bars, pubs, and restauratns where you can eat the best fish ever with only 20.00 Euro per head open till 2 am. Seccagrande is in a strategic place which is only 40 minute drive from the valley of temple in Agrigento, 85 minute from Palermo airport, 120 minute away from Taormina and close to many others attractions.
