Il Gelsomino is located in a village between Lucca(8klms- 10 mins drive) and Pisa (12klms-15 mins drive), surrounded by wooded hills.It is part of an old stone village house built approx 250 yrs ago, full of character, with original chestnut beams.The house is in the centre of the village behind a large romanesque 13th century church with bells.The apartment has been tastefully restored in keeping with the period and provides a cosy "little home"with all mod coms .It is set in a courtyard and has its own private terrace for eating al fresco.Ideally located for a couple wishing to explore Tuscany and nearby Liguria and be part of a real Italian working village.
Entrance is from off the street via the main house courtyard and up steep stone steps to private french doors.There is a small kitchen/breakfast room,shower room and small sitting room on the first floor. Up open tread stairs to the double bedroom with queen size cast iron bed ( 160 cms)on the second floor. There are plenty of books and games for wet weather moments.
There are 3 trattorias in the village, only 5-10 mins walking distance, a post office and 3 general food stores. Lucca is only 10 mins drive away for a good choice of restaurants and shops. There are also 2 large supermarkets only 10 mins drive away.
Lucca is an elegant medieval walled town, full of churches, squares and cobbled streets. Most of the centre is traffic free apart from the locals on bicycles!It is possible to walk or bike on the walls. or just people watch. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is only 12 klms from the apartment, which can be reached by local bus. There are plenty of paying and free beaches stretching from the fishing port of Viareggio to the fashionable smart resort, Forte De Marmi.These beaches can be reached by car in 35 mins.Florence is only 1 hour drive away. It is possible to visit Sienna, Volterra and the Cinque Terre for a day trip.There are 3 golf courses within 40-50 mins drive away.-Montecatini, Versillia and Tirrenia. |
