Wanney Cottage is spacious and cosy 19th century former quarryman's cottage set high in the Northumberland countryside, with open views to the Cheviot Hills. It is situated on a private road, 250 metres off the A68 that runs through the village of Ridsdale. The cottage is situated in a peaceful location, offering modern facilities and private parking.
Ideally suited for exploring the Northumbria National Park, Kielder Water, Hadrians Wall, the Pennine Way, the Border Reivers Country and the Northumberland Coast.
You enter the cottage through a porch into a well-equipped KITCHEN providing an electric oven and four-burner gas hob, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave and many extras for the more ambitious cooks among our guests. The utility room contains the combi boiler and space for drying clothes.
The LOUNGE is spacious and cosily furnished with a comfortable settee, easy chair and dining table with four chairs. Heating is provided via radiators and a wood-burning stove in open fireplace. One basket of logs is provided free, additional wood can be puchaced from us if required. Colour TV (Sky Freeview), DVD and music system are available.
From the lounge you enter the SUNROOM which has a double bed settee and two traditional rocking chairs. It offers wonderful views of the garden, the surrounding countryside and the Cheviot Hills.
Upstairs are the two bedrooms and the bathroom:
The DOUBLE BEDROOM has a comfortable kingsize bed, dressing table and ample storage space. The second BEDROOM has a single bed and storage in a built in wardrobe. Bed linen and towels are provided.
A bed settee is available in the downstairs sun room, providing additional private sleeping space. A cot is available for small children.
The BATHROOM has a bath with shower above, fitted with a thermostatic mixer valve, WC and washbasin. Hot water is constant supplied via the combi boiler.
For guests with children we can provide a cot, high chair and stair gate.
Pet are welcome by prior arrangement.
Outside is a enclosed large garden with garden furniture and barbeque and parking spaces for two cars.
The cottage provides an excellent base to explore Northumberland, the land of the “big sky”. The area is ideal for walking to suit all levels, photography, bird watching and rock climbing. Just step outside and head for the hills or forest.
Only two miles away are lake fishing facilities at Sweethope Lough.
Close by are the historical market towns of Hexham, Morpeth and Alnwick. The Scottish Borders are within easy reach and a day trip to Edinburgh is also possible.
The famous Gateshead Metro Shopping Centre is a 45 minute drive away, as is the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Visit Hadrian’s Wall, a world heritage site, with many Roman forts and remains along its path, including the Roman Army Museum, Housesteads and Vindolanda.
Take a drive to Kielder Water and Forest. Europe’s largest man made lake offers forest walks, cycling and water sports.
Northumberland is also renowned for it’s stunning sandy beaches, sand dunes and castles. Visit Druridge Bay, the fishing villages of Craster and Seahouses, Holy Island and the Farne Islands or explore the many ruined and restored castles in the region.
