Nestled in the Cher Valley in the heart of rural France is the village of Preveranges.
Near this idyllic spot you will find La Maison du Picvert (Woodpecker Cottage) a charming detached two bedroom cottage offering superb quality holiday accommodation for up to 6 people and set in extensive grounds which it shares with the owners’ house.
The cottage has been completely renovated and offers every comfort while still retaining its character and many original features.
Offering “upside down” accommodation to take full advantage of the views and space the first floor consists of open plan living, dining and kitchen areas with double doors leading out to a large veranda overlooking the garden and views over the surrounding countryside.
The living area provides a comfortable sofa, which converts to a double bed (for +2). There is a flat screen television with English channels, DVD & CD Player. Also available are a good selection of DVD’S, CD’s, books and board games.
The fully fitted kitchen has a fridge, electric hob, fan assisted oven and grill, dishwasher, microwave and a full selection of crockery, cutlery, pans, ovenware and utensils.
There is a separate dining area with an oak table which comfortably seats six.
Outside the veranda area has lighting and is furnished with tables & chairs, sun loungers and a barbecue.
On the ground floor you will find two bedrooms which are cosy and warm in winter yet cool and airy in summer.
To the front is the good sized double bedroom and to the back is the twin bedroom. Both have full size beds and plenty of storage in the form of drawers and hanging space.
The bathroom offers a free standing shower cubicle, toilet and full size sink set in a vanity unit which provides ample storage.
The washing machine is located under the stairs.
Should heating be required in the colder months all main rooms are fitted with electric convection heaters (electricity included in your rental price)
The gardens consist of a lovely lawned area to the front of the cottage with swings for children and the rest of the grounds are left as pasture which is regularly grazed by local sheep.
The garden areas around the house are securely fenced offering a completely enclosed garden which is safe for children and pets.
Because we appreciate that you are on holiday we want to make your stay as easy as possible so we automatically include in the price of your rental all cleaning, linen and bath towels, electricity and a basic welcome pack.

The nearest town is Preveranges which has a bar with restaurant, two general stores – one with butchers counter, bakery, pharmacy and bank. Local produce stalls visit each week.
There is a park with a children’s playground and two fishing lakes.
Preveranges hosts various fetes during the year including a sheep fair in spring and harvest festival in autumn.
If you want to escape from the “rat race” and spend your days quietly reading and sunbathing on the private veranda overlooking the garden, fields and countryside beyond, La Maison du Picvert is ideal for you.

La Chatre – famous for its connections with the author Georges Sand and musician Chopin.
Ste Severe sur Indre - where Jaques Tati the director and producer filmed “Jour de Fete”. There is also a museum celebrating his work.
The Roman Town of Chateaumeillant where there are many wine producers offering free tastings. The town is on the Route des Vignobles and has a Gallo-Roman museum.
There are chateaux at Bourges, Culan, Sarzay and Boussac which all offer guided tours.
Les Jardins du Drulon, just outside Culan are open to the public along with many other places of interest.
If walking is of interest the Grand Randonee 41 (long distance trail) passes the front door along with many other way marked paths and tracks.
Water sports are popular at the nautical centre of Sidailles which has a beach area with swimming, canoeing, sailing, rowing and much more during high season.
For the more energetic the miles of country lanes and tracks are ideal for cyclists.
The garden and surrounding countryside are also ideal for bird watching.
There are many lakes and rivers nearby offering excellent opportunities for fishing.
Throughout the year there are many local events, carnivals, antique fairs and car boot sales to name but a few.
Markets are held in most of the surrounding towns giving you the opportunity to purchase local produce such as cheese, foie gras and meats along with fresh fruit and vegetables. You will also find a vast array of interesting stalls selling unique products.
